We have deep expertise in the transportation sector and one of our key areas of focus is supporting the sector with strategic challenges associated with global decarbonisation initiatives and the linkages between the transportation and energy sectors. Our Strategy & Advisory team in the US support major vehicle manufacturers, component/product suppliers and clean technology developers with a range of services including strategic advice, market entry strategies, supply chain strategies/operational support and product development. We also support Federal and State Government agencies with techno-economic analysis, engineering due diligence and program management to address the key challenges facing the transportation and energy sectors.
The Role
Our Strategy & Advisory team in the USA is looking to hire a highly motivated Analyst with a strong background and interest in supporting strategic consulting assignments in the automotive and the wider transportation sectors.
The successful candidate will focus on the analysis of issues and challenges faced today by businesses operating in these sectors, contributing to the design and development of innovative strategies as well as delivering market and product knowledge for our clients. Many of these challenges relate to the impacts of the energy transition on the transportation sector and the pressing need to adopt innovative technologies to accelerate decarbonisation initiatives including vehicle electrification and low carbon fuels. Typical assignments include competitive intelligence gathering, voice of the customer / market activities, aptitude for analyzing large databases of information, conducting financial and market analysis, developing client presentations and supporting clients with implementing the resulting recommendations.
Key responsibilities
Support clients with consulting assignments on a wide variety of topics, including but not limited to:
- Assessing market drivers and customer needs as part of product strategy development and market entry research.
- Competitive benchmarking of products and technologies: cost estimation, performance benchmarking, life cycle cost analysis, overall business model review.
- Technology assessment, road-mapping and adoption scenario modeling / forecasting.
- Due diligence engagements for leading early-stage venture funds, private equity clients to help assess investments in the energy and transportation sectors.
- Operations strategy: design and commercial cost reduction, sourcing strategy development and execution, manufacturing process assessment.
- Designing and creatively executing qualitative and quantitative primary and secondary research through available and new unique information sources.
- Creating quantitative data models from large data sets to analyze, discover insights and develop custom-made strategies for clients.
- Communicating findings and insights to the internal team and to the client verbally and through presentations / reports.
- Working with experienced consultants on a variety of projects.
- Supporting business development activities as required.
Key Competencies and Experience
- Master’s degree in an engineering subject (alternatively, substantial relevant industrial / technical / business related experience in the automotive sector and/or wider transportation sector may be considered as applicable to the role in lieu of a Master’s degree)
- 3 to 5 years of professional experience in the automotive industry or a related sector, with experience in one or more of the following topics:
- Electric Vehicles / Hybrids / Autonomous Vehicles / Mobility / Shared services and associated technologies
- Automotive – passenger car, motorcycle, 2-wheelers, luxury vehicles, high performance vehicles, etc.
- Medium / heavy duty vehicles, off highway equipment, recreational vehicles
- Large engines, power generation, marine, etc.
- Clean energy technologies, including hydrogen, solar, wind, bio-energy/bio-fuels, etc.
- Exhibit strong analytical and data modeling skills and experience conducting in-depth data analysis.
- Highly self-motivated with excellent organization and time-management skills, able to structure own tasks and work independently.
- Be able to communicate complex ideas clearly, with excellent written and verbal presentation skills.
- Be proficient at MS Word, Access, Excel, Power-point.
- Experience involving big data analysis and / or computer programming would be an asset.
Desirable competencies and experience
- Previous work experience in consulting role would be a significant plus.
- Exhibit strong analytical and data modelling skills and experience conducting in-depth data analysis.
- Demonstrate proven drive and initiative with excellent organization and time-management skills, able to structure own tasks and work independently.
- Basic statistical modeling and regression analysis.
- Experience of VBA programming and working with databases.
