The Role

The Engineering Drawing Checker is responsible for the independent verification of engineering drawings and associated technical product documentation prior to submission to the Chief Designer for formal approval and release.

The role acts as a quality gate for engineering documentation, ensuring compliance with company standards, industry drafting standards, GD&T requirements and manufacturing requirements.

The Engineering Drawing Checker works closely with Design Engineers, Chief Designers, Systems Engineers and other Drawing Checkers to identify and resolve drawing deficiencies, improve drawing quality and promote best practice in engineering documentation. The position requires extensive experience in the interpretation and application of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T), engineering drawing standards and manufacturing processes.

Key Responsibilities

            

  • Check Engineering drawings of Engine components
  • Verify fit, form, and function requirements are appropriately documented.
  • Identify drawing errors, inconsistencies, and omissions before release.
  • Ensure drawings clearly communicate design intent.
  • Review assembly drawings to ensure correct bill of materials structure and component relationships.
  • Assess manufacturability and assembly considerations during drawing reviews.
  • Highlight technical risks and recommend corrective actions.
  • Maintain drawing review checklists and contribute to continuous improvement activities.
  • Provide coaching and mentoring to Design Engineers on engineering drawing standards and GD&T best practice.
  • Contribute to the development of the project specific drawing requirement document.
  • Verify documentation is released and controlled in accordance with departmental procedures.
  • Support engineering change management processes and drawing updates

Key Competencies and experience     

  • Degree (Bachelor or Masters) in mechanical engineering or similar field or with equivalent experience
  • Demonstrable experience as a Senior Design Engineer, Manufacturing Engineer or Drawing Checker
  • Expert GD&T knowledge ( BS 8888 and/or ISO TPD/GPS)
  • Extensive practical application of GD&T principles.
  • Experience performing or reviewing drawings and tolerance stack analyses.
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing processes including machining, casting, fabrication and assembly.
  • Knowledge of inspection methods and metrology principles
  • Understanding of Engine design and engine technologies preferable but not a prerequisite
  • Knowledge of Windchill PLM preferable but not a prerequisite
  • Knowledge of CREO preferable but not a prerequisite
  • Self-motivated
  • Ability to work to tight deadlines
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision
