Alumotor: rethinking electric motor design to reduce costs, enhance sustainability and secure supply chains
Ricardo’s Alumotor is an innovative electric motor designed to reduce cost, enhance sustainability and supply chain security by eliminating copper usage and/or rare-earth magnets. Utilising synchronous reluctance architecture with aluminum windings, the motor offers high efficiency while minimising environmental impact. Advanced oil cooling techniques further improve performance, making it a cost-effective and durable solution for light commercial vehicles, off-highway equipment and other applications.
Its flexibility and ability to apply the unique Aluminum windings to many motor types, ensures an optimal balance between cost and performance. By prioritising sustainable materials and innovative engineering, Ricardo has developed an environmentally friendly e-motor that meets the evolving demands of electrified mobility.
