Immersion Cooled Battery Module​

Ricardo has developed an immersion cooled battery module for high-performance and safety applications across motorsport, performance automotive, defence, and aerospace sectors. The module is suitable for high charge and discharge rates while meeting the requirements to contain thermal runaway failure events.​

Battery modules can be connected in parallel and series in the platform to meet capacity, power, and voltage requirements. The modules are fitted with BMS electronics for cell voltage measurement, temperature measurement, and cell balancing, with isoSPI communication to the Battery Control Unit. ​

Ricardo’s immersion cooled battery modules are ready to manufacture in low volumes. Modules can be integrated into packs by customers or by Ricardo subject to additional engineering development. ​

The choice of 21700 cell can be customised. High level specification for baseline module: capacity 724Wh, 42V nominal, 180A peak discharge, 50A peak charge.

How we supply

The baseline immersion cooled battery module is ready to manufacture to order.

Discharge rates up to 1,000A are possible with different 21700 cells. Ricardo will need to undertake minor engineering modifications to verify performance, manufacturing process, and ensure supply.​

Our expert teams can also offer battery pack integration services and manufacture.

The immersion cooled battery modules are intended for high-performance applications where weight and high power, in addition to safety, is required. Typical markets are motorsports, hybrid supercars, aerospace, and defence.

We supply to direct to OEMs, tiered suppliers, race teams, prime contractors, and vehicle design authorities. Modules are not available for aftermarket supply.

We can supply in low volumes for platform prototyping or series supply.
