Dr Eleni Bougioukou

Dr Eleni Bougioukou is a specialist in port-sector sustainability, with a strong focus on sustainable maritime innovation. Eleni works at the forefront of enabling ports and related sectors to transition towards a resilient, net-zero future. With a background in leading strategic energy and sustainability initiatives, she has a proven track record of delivering decarbonisation solutions in port environments, combining her PhD in sustainable ports with hands-on expertise in energy innovation.

Before joining Ricardo, Eleni was Innovation Manager for Energy and Sustainability at the Port of Tyne, where she led key projects aligned with the port’s ambitious net-zero goals. She brings extensive experience in cross-sector innovation, stakeholder engagement, policy development, and green port solutions. Eleni also leads pilot projects focused on decarbonisation, working collaboratively with commercial, research, and governmental stakeholders to implement low-emission strategies.

In her role, Eleni is integral to building and delivering projects across international markets, including implementation of green shipping corridors, low carbon fuel adoption and renewable energy integration. Her work spans strategic planning, roadmapping, stakeholder consultation, feasibility assessments, and project planning. As Ricardo expands its global portfolio of infrastructure transition projects, Eleni's expertise supports the delivery of cutting-edge solutions that help communities across the globe in becoming safer and more sustainable.
