Harry's Story

What is your role at Ricardo?
I am a consultant specialising in hydrology and hydrometry. My expertise lies in river monitoring, with 6 years’ worth of experience in data collection, analysis, and reporting.

What does your average day at Ricardo look like?
An average day could vary greatly. My time is split between fieldwork and office work. I could be anywhere around the UK, collecting flow measurements on a river—either with our state-of-the-art RS5 ADCP or in waders using handheld spot flow measuring devices. I belong to the Sheffield office, and I spend all my office days working from here with other members of the Water team.

What do you look forward to at work?
I enjoy working with highly knowledgeable experts in fields that truly interest me… along with my turns in the office Scrabble game.

What do you most enjoy about working with your team?
I enjoy the camaraderie of working as part of a team towards a shared goal and collaborating with various specialists within our Water area to successfully deliver projects. "A strong team can make any vision turn into a reality." - John Carmack.

What advice would you give to anyone considering a career as a Hydrometry and Water Quality Consultant?
Strive to participate in numerous projects and receive training in various methods of data collection. This approach will enable you to develop a comprehensive understanding of the data you analyse and report on.
