Josh Ley
Biography
Josh Ley is a globally recognised leader in advanced electrified systems with more than 28 years of experience delivering cutting‑edge electric powertrain and energy solutions across marine, industrial, commercial, and defence applications. As Global Capability Head for Electrified Systems at Ricardo, Josh spearheads the development of scalable, production‑ready electrification technologies that are rapidly transforming the maritime and port sectors. His expertise spans electric machine design, power electronics, hydrogen and fuel cell integration, and whole‑system energy optimisation—capabilities essential to accelerating port decarbonisation.
Josh’s career includes senior leadership roles at Danfoss Editron, and more than two decades at UQM Technologies, progressing through roles including Vice President of Technology, Motor Engineering Manager, and Senior Motor Design Engineer. Across these posts, he led the development and industrialisation of high‑performance motors, inverters, onboard chargers, DC‑DC converters, and complete electrified powertrains, many of which are now deployed in heavy‑duty, off‑highway, and marine equipment.
Josh applies his deep technical and manufacturing expertise to help ports transition to resilient, low‑emission operations. His work supports the integration of shore power, hybrid and fully electric propulsion, hydrogen‑ready systems, and the electrification of port machinery—all critical to improving air quality, reducing noise, and enabling future‑proof infrastructure.
