Biography

Rocío Roldán-Aguayo is a Chartered Chemical Engineer with a deep passion for waste management, biomass conversion, and sustainable energy solutions. With over nine years of experience in engineering and operational roles across the UK and Europe, she has developed a strong expertise in waste-to-energy (WtE), biomass treatment, and the decarbonisation of industrial processes.

Currently serving as a Principal Technical Consultant at Ricardo Energy & Environment, Rocío leads and supports international projects focusing on waste treatment, thermal conversion technologies, carbon capture, and regulatory compliance. She has successfully managed multimillion-pound projects, securing EU funding and delivering strategic insights to both private and public sector stakeholders.

Her expertise spans energy recovery technologies, waste composition analysis, process engineering, and lifecycle assessments. She has a proven track record in project management, holding PRINCE2 certification, and has played a key role in shaping policies and engineering solutions in areas such as chemical recycling, carbon capture and utilisation (CCUS), and hydrogen production from waste.

Before joining Ricardo, Rocío worked as a Senior Process Engineer at Veolia UK, where she supported the operations and performance of WtE and hazardous waste plants, contributing to efficiency improvements and compliance with evolving environmental regulations. She also held technical roles at Exergy Ltd, driving EU-funded innovation projects in biofuels, waste valorisation, and circular economy initiatives.

A published researcher and active member of the Institution of Chemical Engineers (IChemE) and ISWA, Rocío combines her technical expertise with a strategic vision to drive sustainable waste management solutions.
