The Role
As an LCA Consultant, you will support the delivery of LCA and sustainability projects across a range of sectors. You will apply developing expertise in LCA methods and tools to analyse environmental impacts, contribute to sustainability reporting and support clients in designing lower-impact, circular and resource-efficient products and systems.
Key Responsibilities
Project delivery and management
- Deliver assigned LCA tasks under the guidance of senior colleagues in line with ISO 14040/14044 standards and Ricardo’s quality frameworks.
- Support the delivery of LCA projects across a range of sectors and applications, ensuring work is completed to high technical and quality standards.
- Plan and manage own workload across multiple projects, providing progress updates and identifying risks to delivery.
- Contribute to project documentation, data management and quality assurance processes.
- Maintain accurate project records and track time using internal systems.
- Maintain approximately 85% utilisation on project delivery.
Technical delivery and leadership
- Apply working knowledge of LCA principles and tools (e.g. SimaPro, GaBi, OpenLCA, Excel) to carry out data analysis and modelling.
- Support data collection, validation, and interpretation in accordance with ISO 14040/44 standards.
- Contribute to the development and application of LCA methodologies, databases and analytical frameworks.
- Prepare clear, well-structured technical deliverables such as data summaries, report sections and presentation materials.
- Support research and evidence-gathering to inform client recommendations and internal capability building.
Client relationships and thought leadership
- Communicate effectively with clients and project partners at an appropriate level, under guidance from senior colleagues.
- Contribute to client meetings, workshops and presentations as required.
- Support the preparation of client-ready deliverables and help ensure outputs are aligned with client expectations.
Commercial awareness
- Contribute to proposals and bids under the supervision of senior team members.
- Support delivery efficiency through good organisation, quality and communication.
- Help identify opportunities to improve project delivery, client experience or internal tools and systems.
Professional development
- Take ownership of personal development, building expertise in LCA tools, standards and applications.
- Seek feedback and apply learning to improve technical quality and delivery skills.
- Participate in internal knowledge-sharing and team learning sessions
Key Competencies and Experience
- Degree (or equivalent) in a relevant technical or environmental discipline.
- Practical experience in conducting LCAs, ideally within a consultancy, research or industry setting.
- Working knowledge of LCA standards and methodologies (ISO 14040/44, EN 15804, PAS 2050).
- Familiarity with one or more LCA software tools such as SimaPro, GaBi or OpenLCA.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with good attention to detail.
- Proficiency in Excel for data management and analysis.
- Ability to communicate technical findings clearly, both in writing and verbally.
- Good organisational and time management skills, with the ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously.
- Collaborative and adaptable, with the ability to work effectively as part of multi-disciplinary teams.
- Awareness of sustainability and circular economy principles and their relevance to LCA.
Desirable Competencies and Experience
- Understanding of environmental product declarations (EPDs) and product footprinting standards.
- Awareness of current and emerging sustainability and regulatory frameworks (e.g. EU Green Deal, CSRD).
- Experience with automation, data handling or scripting languages (e.g. Python, R, Excel VBA).
- Interest in data visualisation and communication of complex results (e.g. Power BI, Tableau).
