Senior power electronics engineer

The Role

Following a recent exciting project win, we are seeking a highly skilled Senior Electronics Engineer to join our dynamic electronics team. You will play a key role in delivering innovative solutions for client projects, leading technical tasks and ensuring successful project outcomes. 

Key responsibilities

The successful candidate working as part of a multi-national team will be responsible for the following tasks:

  • Provide technical delivery of electrical and electronic projects.
  • Deliver projects on time in budget.
  • Responsible for system design, development, and validation of electrical and electronic systems.
  • Detailed electrical and power electronics circuit design and simulation.
  • Support of PCB layout planning and guidance.
  • Generation of product and test specifications.
  • Liaison with mechanical, thermal and software design teams to deliver complete product designs.
  • Support of prototype and volume manufacture.
  • Prototype debug and test.
  • Technical support of the sales team.
  • Communicate directly with clients on technical issues.
  • Liaise with suppliers/subcontractors to develop specifications and solutions.

Key Competencies and Experience

Essential 

  • Degree in an Electrical/Electronics Engineering discipline.
  • Hardware design core skills / deep understanding of:
    • Specification of electronics hardware requirements.
    • Detailed design experience of power converter output stage electronics (up to 100kW)
    • Detailed design experience of 3-phase power factor corrected active power supplies (up to 100kW)
    • Detailed design experience of 3-phase motor drive inverters including 2-level and multi-level inverters (up to 100kW)
    • Design experience with wide band gap devices including SiC and GaN.
    • Detailed design experience of gate drive circuits for silicon and WBG devices.
    • Design experience of power filtering techniques and filter implementation including 3-phase input and output filters.
    • Experience of general design techniques for high voltage (up to 1500V)
    • Experience / knowledge of power switching stage modulation techniques.
    • Power magnetics (inductor & transformer) design for multi-kW AC-DC, DC-DC and DC-AC converters.
    • Knowledge of power electronics thermal management strategies.
    • Design for EMC including knowledge of standards and testing.
    • Worst-case circuit analysis.
  • Familiar with product delivery process from requirements capture through to design validation.
  • Experience in compliance engineering to external standards, such as EMC, vehicle safety etc.
  • Strong teamwork, organizational, oral, and written communication skills.

Desirable

  • Experience in design for manufacture.
  • Experience in a schematic entry, ideally using Altium Designer.
  • Experience using schematic simulation tools – pSpice, LTSpice based.
  • Electronics manufacturing and test experience.
  • Experienced in automotive electronics design.
  • Experience in delivering DFMEA for design.
  • Previous experience in designing products using 8, 16 or 32bit microcontrollers.
  • Knowledge of Functional Safety standards ISO26262 or/and IEC61508.
  • Basic understanding of the requirements of electronics packaging.
