Senior Payroll Controller (12 month FTC)

This role holds leadership and accountability for the effective operation of five entities payroll, overseeing the relationship between the in-house payroll team and a third-party payroll provider to ensure accurate and timely monthly delivery. The position also supports the preparation of foreign payrolls for France and Sweden and plays a key role in driving continuous improvement across payroll-related processes, controls, and systems.

 Key Responsibilities

    • Solely manage the four outsourced UK payrolls (covering 700 people total).
    • Maintain compliance with company and statutory regulations through robust local control environment, ensuring accuracy and all payroll and HMRC deadlines are adhered to.
    • Take ownership of complex and technical issues and queries.
    • Advise the People team and wider stakeholders on options and risks for a range of business decisions.
    • Cultivate relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
    • Liaise directly with HR to ensure all monthly variables are input correctly to the Change Note and to drive the timely resolution of any payroll queries arising.
    • Process any payroll changes in Cascade as required, including but not limited to new starters, leavers, zero hours employees, overtime, referrals, maternity, sickness etc.
    • Work closely with third party payroll processor.
    • Work closely with benefits manager for annual and monthly benefits selection payroll processing.
    • Work closely with finance colleagues for monthly and period payroll-related activities including production of PSA, maintenance of control accounts and payroll journal .
    • Oversee the processing of P60s, P45s, and P11ds.
    • Continuous improvement of payroll related controls and elements including payroll procedures, business continuity plans, approaches to delivering a modern payroll function, simplification of legacy approaches.

  • Advanced Excel skills for the manipulation of large volumes of data
  • CIPP Degree in Payroll Management, or demonstrable equivalent experience
  • System experience in IRIS Cascade payroll and SAP finance systems
