Contractor - Senior Vehicle Dynamics Analyst

The Role

As a Senior Vehicle Dynamics Analyst your primary role will be to aid the design of suspension and steering systems and complete vehicle performance by undertaking multi-body kinematic and dynamic analysis using the ADAMS 3D dynamic simulation toolset

Key Responsibilities

  • Apply theoretical knowledge and engineering techniques to the solution of basic analytical engineering problems
  • Build high-fidelity kinematic and dynamic multi-body models for suspension, chassis, and full vehicle systems using commercial CAE tools based on CAD and other engineering data
  • Conduct kinematic, quasi-static and dynamic simulations of suspension systems and vehicles
  • Prepare detailed technical presentations for both internal and client project engineering review
  • Interface with internal and external clients to deliver updates, design recommendations and analysis results
  • Confer with senior engineers and supervisor to obtain necessary guidance and direction
  • Work with proposal leaders to develop scope of work and to estimate resource needs
  • Perform technical supervision of junior team members
  • Assist with technique and analysis methodology development
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned

Key Competencies and Experience

  • A degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • Advanced experience in statics and dynamics
  • Advanced experience in numerical methods including finite difference/finite element methods
  • A deep understanding of the modelling, simulation and design of suspension and chassis systems
  • Understanding of kinematic and compliance (K&C) studies, ride and handling simulations, and durability assessments
  • Understand and analyse suspension geometry, load paths, and dynamic behaviour under various operating conditions
  • Understand full vehicle dynamic simulations
  • Broad vehicle engineering and integration knowledge
  • Experience performing dynamic simulations
  • Experience with the ADAMS analysis toolset for dynamic simulations
  • Experience with at least one commercial CAD package (e.g., Catia, Creo, NX, SolidWorks, etc.)
  • Experience performing dynamic analyses in the time and frequency domain
  • Understanding of tyre models and road load inputs
