Resident Engineer
The Resident Engineer will provide onsite technical support for a major engine development programme delivered by Ricardo for a client based in India. The role is responsible for ensuring that engine build, preparation, and early test activities are completed in accordance with UK engineering standards, programme requirements, and agreed quality processes. The position acts as the primary point of contact between the client’s engineering teams and the UK organisation.
Key Responsibilities
- Engine Build & Preparation
- Ensure engine builds are completed in full compliance with the approved build book, including accurate recording of all checks, measurements, and verification steps.
- Confirm that all parts used in engine builds meet design requirements and have been formally accepted for use, with any concessions documented and approved.
- Provide onsite support to the client’s build teams, addressing technical queries and coordinating responses with the UK engineering team.
- Test Preparation & Initial Testing
- Support engine preparation for test, ensuring test cell setup, instrumentation, and configuration meet programme and safety requirements.
- Monitor initial test activities, identify issues or anomalies, and liaise with the client teams and UK engineering team to support timely resolution.
- Technical Issue Management
- Assess technical issues arising during build or test phases and communicate findings clearly to client teams and UK management.
- Provide structured feedback, ensuring issues are documented, escalated, and tracked in line with internal processes.
- Stakeholder & Customer Engagement
- Act as the onsite representative of Ricardo, maintaining professional relationships with client personnel.
- Demonstrate confidence and credibility in customer‑facing situations, ensuring expectations are managed effectively.
- Facilitate clear communication between the client and UK teams, ensuring alignment on technical matters and programme progress.
- Reporting & Compliance
- Produce regular progress reports, technical summaries, and issue logs for internal and client stakeholders.
- Ensure all activities comply with UK and Indian regulatory requirements, site safety procedures, and company policies.
Essential Skills & Experience
- Degree or equivalent qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Internal Combustion Engines, or a related field.
- Demonstrable experience in engine build, test, and development environments.
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings, build books, tolerances, and technical specifications.
- Strong diagnostic and problem‑solving skills with experience in root‑cause analysis.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to represent the company professionally in a customer environment.
- Experience working in cross‑functional and multicultural teams.
- Ability to work independently while maintaining alignment with remote technical teams.

Additional Information
- The role is based full‑time at the client’s facility in India.
- Occasional travel to the UK may be required for training or programme reviews.
- Travel within India may be required depending on project needs.
- The engineer will be employed by Ricardo and assigned to the client site.
