Today Ricardo has over 200 strategic, engineering and environmental consultants based across Australia with experience in rail and mass transit, water, climate risk, adaptation and resilience, environment and planning and waste and circular economy.
Our experience ranges from providing safe and reliable rail systems in a world transitioning to net zero, to policy, strategy, economics and technical advisory on Australia and New Zealand’s largest water infrastructure projects, coastal adaptation plans, and circular economy initiatives.
We provide end-to-end services for the rail industry – from rolling stock engineering, to safety assurance, and operations and maintenance consulting services.

Sydney Metro Shadow Operator Project
Ricardo, in partnership with Seoul Metro (Ricardo–Seoul Metro), is performing the role of Shadow Operator on the Sydney Metro West (SMW) & Sydney Metro Western Sydney Airport (SMWSA) projects. Ricardo has supplied a team of 20+ resources in the areas of railway operations, safety assurance, train operations modelling, track, structures & civils, security, depot operations, maintenance strategy & planning, station operations & customer, O&M cost planning, electrical (traction/LV/HV) and rolling stock.
New Intercity Fleet (Mariyung) Project
The Mariyung project is a TfNSW initiative to procure 610 new cars for Sydney suburban services. Ricardo provides Technical and O&M Advisory services for the Mariyung project and over time has delivered this with a team of up to 45 resources consisting of over 20 different disciplines. Ricardo has been involved in all phases of the project from tender through procurement & design, manufacture & assembly, test & commissioning, operational & maintenance readiness, system integration, and management of train acceptance.

Water sharing in the Murray Darling Basin
Our team provided extensive advice to the 2019 Inspector General’s review of water sharing in the Murray system at a time of extreme public concern about the management of water in the Basin. Our input helped highlight the real issues facing the system, and the impacts of a 20-year period of unprecedented low inflows.
Infrastructure SA's Northern Water project
Ricardo is supporting Infrastructure SA on the seminal Northern Water project in South Australia which aims to provide a new, climate independent water source for the Far North, Upper Spencer Gulf and Eastern Eyre Peninsula regions of the state. This project is enabling the growth of industries crucial to achieving net-zero goals, including the emerging green energy and hydrogen industries.

Perry Bridge Solar Farm
Project management, conceptual design and town planning efforts for the $125 million Perry Bridge Solar Farm project. The solar farm has a capacity of 44 MW, featuring over 100,000 solar panels and 50 MWh of battery storage.
Queensland Coastal Hazard Adaptation Strategies
Ricardo conducted economic assessments of adaptation options for coastal hazards as part of the QCoast2100 program for five councils in Queensland. They now serve as the primary tools for driving coastal adaptation planning and action in Queensland.

Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emissions in Australia’s Waste and Recycling Sector
Ricardo conducted a comprehensive assessment of the waste and recycling sector's emissions to provide a clear picture of its contribution to GHG emissions on behalf of the National Waste and Recycling Industry Council (NWRIC).
