Ricardo and COP30

Ricardo and COP30

Annual global conference

The 30th United Nations Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP30) will take place in Belém, Brazil in 2025, hosted in partnership with Amazonian and Global South nations.

COP30 will bring together governments, civil society, industry, academia, Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities, and international organisations to assess global progress on climate action, strengthen commitments, and advance innovative solutions for the climate crisis.

COP30 aims to deliver outcomes across four key pillars:

  1. fast tracking a just, orderly, and equitable energy transition;
  2. fixing climate finance;
  3. focusing on people, lives and livelihoods; and
  4. underpinning everything with full inclusivity.

Ricardo's experts will participate in talks and events at this years' conference to contribute to ongoing discussions on solving the global climate crisis.

Funding the cost of change

We advise governments, donors, development banks and international institutions in areas such as:

  • climate investment planning and financing the implementation of NDCs;
  • advise governments and business on water policy, strategy, and infrastructure to navigate complexity and uncertainty;
  • capacity building and strengthening national institutions to access climate finance;
  • identifying where public finance is best placed to leverage private sector funds; and
  • tracking and evaluating climate finance flows.

Ricardo also supports countries in the development and implementation of NDCs, including sectoral action plans, National Adaptation Plans and climate investment plans. Our multidisciplinary teams have delivered a range of climate change projects throughout the world. The map below highlights a selection of these projects:

Santa Cruz City Climate Action Plan

Santa Cruz, Bolivia, is addressing rising climate risks, including higher temperatures, floods, wildfires, and disease threats, through a comprehensive climate action plan developed with support from the World Bank and Ricardo. The plan aims for carbon neutrality by 2050 and focuses on 33 priority actions across themes such as urban planning, ecological resilience, and inclusive mobility. Developed through extensive stakeholder engagement and analytical modeling, it includes concrete targets such as increasing recycling rates by 40 percent and ensuring 20 percent of city trips use alternative transport, with each action assigned to specific public bodies along with timelines, budgets, and funding strategies.

Implementing renewable energy in Bermuda

Bermuda aims for 85 percent renewable energy by 2040, including a 60 MW offshore wind farm. Ricardo supported site selection, cost estimation, and procurement design, while developing risk mitigation plans for the island’s unique conditions. By overseeing implementation and stakeholder engagement, Ricardo helped identify feasible sites, potential capacity expansion, and ensured strong developer participation.
