21 Jul 2021

Ricardo’s world-leading and world-championship winning electrification solutions for next generation electric vehicles and race cars are featured in the exhibition ‘Our Future Moves’ at Coventry Transport Museum.

In recognition of Ricardo’s world-class expertise in future transport and sustainable mobility engineering, three of its leading-edge technology solutions for electric vehicles are being featured in a major new technology and innovation showcase which is running in parallel with Coventry’s tenure as UK City of Culture.

The Our Future Moves exhibition, which opened on 17 July 2021 at Coventry Transport Museum, is the first in a year-long series of activities showcasing this UK region’s pioneering work in transport innovation. Three key Ricardo technologies which are making vehicle electrification more efficient, higher performing, and more cost-effective are featured in the exhibition.

First, the Ricardo Planetary Reduction Drive which is part of a new family of lightweight, efficient, off-the-shelf electric vehicle transmissions, leveraging the company’s experience in automotive and hypercar E-Axles and R&D for Formula E. Secondly, the multi-speed electric drive unit concept: a highly efficient solution which allows an electric vehicle to travel for longer and further with a smaller battery. Thirdly, the 800V battery concept for high performance electric vehicles and next generation battery management system - both of which ensure better performance, efficiency and cost.

Martin Starkey, Managing Director for Ricardo Performance Products said: “As a renowned world-leader in electrification, Ricardo is very proud that our technology is being featured in Our Future Moves exhibition. With our state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities and highly skilled engineering workforce at our Midlands Technical Centre in Warwickshire, Ricardo is playing a key role in ensuring that Coventry and the wider region is recognised as a centre of innovation for future transport across multiple sectors, and is establishing the UK at the forefront of the global green industrial revolution.”

“Together with all our partners in this 12-month campaign, our aspiration is that Our Future Moves will showcase the innovative technology solutions which will shape global transport, give an insight into how future cities might look, and will help to inspire the next generation of engineers who will be essential if the UK is to meet its net zero goals by 2050.”

The year-long innovation showcase Our Future Moves, runs from July 2021 to the summer of 2022 with a series of events taking place over the 12-month period. Our Future Moves exhibition runs until 31 October 2021.
