Ricardo supports critical project to unlock sustainable water supply for industrial development and renewable hydrogen energy in South Australia

23 Feb 2024

Ricardo is pleased to be supporting Infrastructure SA on the seminal Northern Water project in South Australia which aims to provide a new, climate independent water source for the Far North, Upper Spencer Gulf and Eastern Eyre Peninsula regions of the state. This will enable the growth of industries crucial to achieving net-zero goals, including the emerging green energy and hydrogen industries.

Peter Malinauskas, Premier of South Australia, said: “South Australia stands on the cusp of a once-in-a-generation economic opportunity, and I am determined to ensure we seize it.”

“We’re working with industry partners BHP, Origin Energy, Amp Energy and Fortescue to deliver the Northern Water project – to unlock a critical, sustainable supply of water for industrial development in our State’s north.”

“This is a pivotal part of our plan to lead the world with renewable hydrogen energy and boost green steel and copper production. And will bring thousands of new jobs while significantly growing our economy.”

The Northern Water project objectives fit neatly with Ricardo’s goals to support clean energy transition and assisting governments and corporate clients to achieve their net-zero goals.

Ricardo’s Australian water team has been involved in the project since 2021 providing engineering and technical advice that fed into the project business case and we are looking forward to continuing to support the Northern Water project with client-side engineering management as the project moves through the procurement phase.
