Jay's Story

Jay Al-Tayie has more than 25 years of industrial and automotive experiences in the fields of power electronics, electric machines and electrifications. Jay received PhD degree from the University of Newcastle Upon Type, United Kingdom, he is a member of the IET and IEEE organisations and held green belt six sigma certification. He was applications and engineering leader with Cummins UK where he was engaged in the designing and leading of many projects and products development such as inverters, DC/DC converters, battery chargers, electric machines (both radial and axial) and more projects related to power generation, military, marine, telecommunication, grid codes and energy management.  He has more than twenty publications and three patents. Prior to Cummins, he was at the University of Leeds where he was a research-fellow designing and evaluating new linear actuator/controller topologies and technologies.


He joined Ricardo in 2020 as chief engineer for power electronics machines and drives (PEMD), later he was promoted to be the position of technical authority head for PEMD. In his current role using in-depth industry and technical knowledge to provide thought leadership on the future direction of power electronics, electric machines and drives technologies to meet customer electrification requirements. To provide program technical leadership and mentoring through project director or chief engineer roles on various programs. To drive proposal development to customers.  Jay is also involved in driving the strategy and technology roadmaps of the PEMD organisation and community within the Ricardo group. He is enthusiastic and driving for technology such as the SiC, GaN, magnets free motors, highly integrated electronics and electric drives and sustainable solutions. All technologies to lead to a clean/safe world!
