Key Purpose

  • As Global Lead the successful candidate will drive, develop and deliver profitable growth plans for Future Energy Solutions within the Energy Infrastructure Transition business, with a focus on building innovative and premium strategic advisory consulting solutions.
  • Future Energy Solution business covers Power (Wind, Solar, Pumped Hydro, Battery Storage, Power Transmission), Hydrogen, Hydrogen vectors, clean energy infrastructures (EV charging, H2 fueling, Power and fueling networks) connecting with downstream industries (including Aviation, Ports, Ground Mobility, Datacentres)
  • Accountable for leadership, business performance (order book and P&L) and the safe and effective operations of this part of the business.

Organisational Reporting

Reporting to Global VP of EIT (Energy, Infrastructure Transition) and working collaboratively with other Global Business Directors and managers within the EIT team and across the business.

Key Responsibilities

  • Accountable for developing and delivering the strategic plans of the business areas aligned with the vision for the overall business. 
  • Overall accountability for sales order book and delivering sustainable pipeline growth for the business area. Defining BD strategy, marketing strategy, routes to market for new offerings.
  • Accountable for performance in terms of Revenue/VAT, Profit Margins and the growth trajectory across all business areas of responsibility.
  • Proactively assess new market developments and emerging challenges in the energy transition space, to stay ahead of competition and meeting overall EIT vision.
  • Lead the external market focus and the creation of new and innovative solutions.
  • Proactively lead development of subject matter thought leadership, white papers and promote Ricardo’s solutions and capabilities through events, conferences and other marketing channels.
  • Work with other Global Business Leads in developing new solutions and engaging with customers as a part of ongoing consulting assignments as well as business development related activities as required.
  • Define the resourcing needs for this element of the Practice Area and contribute to the overall strategy, ensuring a balance of cost and flexibility, identify opportunities to create external partnerships.
  • Ensure that all areas of responsibility operate safely, ethically and in line with all statutory and corporate requirements.
  • Sets the standard for people development, coaching and mentoring direct reports and key individuals, and holding others to account with regard to their own and their team’s development.
  • Build succession for key roles within their team (including own) and drive talent attraction and retention within the business.
  • Provide leadership, development and motivation to the people aligned to their area of the Practice, and the wider organisation, in order to enable the delivery of significant sustainable growth.
  • As required, ready to take on hands-on consulting assignment delivery leadership with an ability to direct and develop project reports.

Essential Skills and qualifications

We are not specific with regard to exact qualifications or years of experience, the right person will bring the energy and capability to support business growth areas with the following background experiences.

  • Working directly with customers, building positive relationships and growing both existing order book and new business
  • Proven track record of delivering to revenue, profit and cash targets in a high value consultancy environment.
  • Defining and executing growth strategies.
  • Appropriate industry and market knowledge relevant to the Practice and Future Fuels.
  • Degree in Chemical, Electrical other relevant engineering and / or economics.
  • Recognized as an SME in for one or more subject matter areas.
  • Prior experience delivering Consulting assignments including development of developing key strategy, commercial and technical deliverables suitable for strategy, concept, feasibility projects and OE/PMC assignments.
  • Ability to think strategically and presenting ideas in a concise and logical manner.
  • Ability to understand complex problems and develop a value-based proposition for customers to solve those problems.
  • Leading people – development, mentoring and coaching of individuals and being an inspirational presence for the wider business.
  • Strong commercial acumen.
  • Experience of working in a complex / matrix global organisation.
  • MBA is an advantage but not essential.

Additional requirements - Some international and domestic travels.
