Engineering Program Manager - India

An opportunity exists for an Engineering Program Manager with systems engineering or component / system ownership experience to work for Ricardo on a prestigious new engine project for a customer in the Indian market.
Key Responsibilities:
To deliver engine systems from concept to production as follows:
- Act as project leader in India, working closely with UK-based Chief Engineer and Project Director
- Act as key link between Ricardo, engineering services providers, the customer and their suppliers
- Build strong relationships with Ricardo and customer senior management, and proactively engage with them to ensure effective communication and to resolve issues as they arise
- Mediate and resolve conflicting viewpoints as they occur
- Provide support and guidance to less experienced System Engineers
- Prepare or update Engineering Specifications to define requirements in terms of cost, weight, performance, durability, etc
- Working with the wider engineering team, take responsibility for coordinating the design, analysis and development activities for a given engine system or systems
- Progress the design through the project gateways to ensure that parts are released on time to support DVP activities and production launch
- Manage suppliers of components for prototypes, development and production, including hosting meetings, issuing meeting minutes, and critically reviewing supplier technical data such as inspection reports
- Technical support to engine build and assembly at customer
- Work to agreed project quality procedures and validation processes
- Presenting clear and reasoned status reports to internal and external customers
Requirements:
An engineering degree qualification to a high grade is expected although other qualifications will be considered. The successful applicant will have some or all of the following:
- 10 – 15 years’ experience in mechanical / automotive engineering, with leadership experience
- Good understanding of internal combustion engine fundamentals and knowledge and experience of engine systems and hardware such as base engines, valvetrain, front end accessory drive, manifolds, air handling, fuel injection, pumps etc.• Previous system or component ownership responsibility
- Commercial awareness
- Flexibility in applying engineering knowledge would be a key advantage
Experience in / of:
- A similar role, e.g. release engineer, component engineer, application engineer etc.
- Design and release of components and system through production
- Supporting build and assembly of complex products such as internal combustion engines
- Test and development of prototype systems through production
- Interaction with suppliers and internal and external customers
- Preparing design failure mode and effects analyses
- Supervision of less experienced engineers
- Project management
- Onsite customer working (application engineering / supplier support / consulting engineering)
PERSONAL SPECIFICATION
Skills
- Experience in some or all of the following: Component releasing, reading and using engineering drawings, FMEA, DVP, Design & Development, APQP & PPAP, problem solving (8D type), CAD visualisation tools, BOM, ETRS, supplier management.
- Excellent PC skills required.
- Good report writing and presentation skills are essential. Personal Attributes You will be comfortable in meeting environments and be able to deliver clear status updates based upon concise information and robust planning. You will be able to co-ordinate and understand information from multiple engineering functions. You will be a motivated self-starter who manages their time and takes pride in engineering appropriate solutions to complex problems. Additional attributes include:

- Ability to spend substantial time on-site with the customer in Pune. You should also ideally have a full driving license and when required, be prepared to travel within India and occasionally to the UK. Experience of site visits to suppliers and assessment of supplier facilities would be an advantage
