Air Quality Consultant

Salary range: £32,000 - £37,000

The role

We are currently looking for an Air Quality Consultant with existing proven experience to join our Air Quality and Environmental team.

As a Consultant, you will be expected to be responsible for overseeing a range of projects and tasks, ensuring that monitoring equipment for air pollutants across the UK is providing the correct results and giving reliable measurements of air quality for our customers. This will involve project planning, data analysis and reporting, and occasional site work to deploy or calibrate equipment.

You will be required to review and ratify air pollution measurements using our in-house software systems and strict methods prescribed by UK Law and European Directives. It is expected that you will have a good understanding of current air pollution problems and legislation aimed to address these issues.  

Key Responsibilities

  • Planning and overseeing projects and tasks within the scope of Ricardo's ISO 90001 and ISO 14001 accreditation.
  • Ratification of data for publication on the Defra UK Air Quality website https://uk-air.defra.gov.uk/ as well as the corresponding Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and Air Quality England websites operated by Ricardo (e.g. https://www.airqualityengland.co.uk/).
  • Customer interaction for reporting and resolving data issues via email and helpdesk activities.
  • Data analysis and reporting.
  • Occasional testing, calibration and documentation of air quality measuring instrumentation.

The role will be mainly desk-based with occasional travel and site work in the UK

Key competencies and experience

  • Experience in air quality consultancy and understanding.
  • A degree in Physical Sciences or Engineering is an advantage, but not essential; candidates who can demonstrate relevant experience will also be considered.
  • Driving experience would be an advantage but not essential.
  • The ability to conduct research, gather and analyse data accurately and methodically.
  • IT literacy.
  • Accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Strong communication and team working skills.
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills.
  • Self-reliance and good problem solving skills
  • Good level of physical fitness in order to be able to load and unload monitoring and testing equipment.
  • Awareness of site safety issues.
