The Role

As a Hydrometry & Telemetry Technician at Ricardo, you’ll be part of a passionate and proactive team delivering high-quality water and environmental services. This is an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic and growing monitoring team. We’re looking for enthusiastic, self-motivated individuals with a hands-on approach, practical mindset, and strong problem-solving skills. In this role, you’ll be responsible for installing, calibrating, maintaining, and repairing hydrometry and telemetry systems in the field, as well as supporting a variety of environmental monitoring surveys across the UK.
Key Responsibilities
Hydrometry focuses on measuring the physical characteristics and quantity of water, including flow, levels, and quality. In this part of the role, you will:
- Install, operate, and maintain hydrological monitoring equipment.
- Calibrate instruments and collect field data.
- Conduct regular equipment servicing and ensure data quality through effective QA/QC processes.
- Interpret and process collected data for reporting and decision-making.
Telemetry involves the remote collection and transmission of environmental data. In this aspect of the role, you will:
- Install, configure, and maintain telemetry systems.
- Troubleshoot and repair faults in data transmission or sensor performance.
- Ensure the efficient and accurate delivery of real-time environmental data.
Key Competencies and Experience
Proven experience in hydrometric fieldwork and river flow monitoring
Strong understanding of flow measurement techniques, including electromagnetic and ADCP gauging
Confident working independently in the field and leading small survey teams
Solid awareness of health and safety practices, particularly in and around water
Demonstrated ability to assess risk and implement safety controls on site
Full, clean UK driving licence
Confident swimmer
Strong team player with a proactive, positive attitude
Willingness to travel and work away from home as required
Desirable: RYA Powerboat Level 2 certification
