Intern - Water Environmental Consulting

Contract Type: Contract / Temporary

We are looking for an intern to join our team. You will join colleagues in providing technical support on a variety of Water Quality projects, across a wide range of clients in the water, developer, infrastructure, and public sectors. The position offers the opportunity to become a part of the Water team working within a consultancy. You will be supporting the team, within the field and at a desk, on an array of projects across the South of the UK. 

This role would suit someone in Kent (or surrounding) based.

Key responsibilities

  • Your role will involve working alongside the Water and Ecological team undertaking a range of field-based water quality and flow gauging survey work.
  • The surveys are accrued out in rivers, lakes and estuaries.
  • There will also be Water Quality survey work at airports, supporting pollution incident responses, and possibly some ecology survey work.
  • Gather relevant information. Solve problems, make informed decisions regarding work in conjunction with other team members or more senior colleagues.
  • You will always work alongside an experienced colleague during surveys,
  • Maintain/clean fieldwork equipment between surveys with support from other team members.

Key competencies and experience

  • A full UK driving licence.
  • A degree in a relevant environmental subject.

Skills and Behaviour

  • Communicates information clearly and accurately.
  • An awareness of undertaking surveys safely and to a high standard.
  • Good team working skills are essential.
  • Plans, organises, and reviews activities effectively and efficiently in order to meet defined expectations.
  • Keen to learn new skills and get involved with the wider team.

Desirable

  • Capable of using mapping software (ideally QGIS) to produce basic outputs.
  • Good Excel skills
  • Cold Water Safety Training (Ricardo will arrange this if not already trained).

This role involves travelling to site for fieldwork and can involve staying away in hotels if the fieldwork is too far to commute to/from.
