The Water and Environment practice of Ricardo Energy & Environment, offers a comprehensive range of specialist services within the environmental consultancy sector. Nationally and internationally recognised for our expertise in planning and overseeing complex and sensitive projects, our skills have been utilised by a wide range of clients within the public and private sectors including the European Commission, government, water companies and developers.
We are looking for a consultant to join our Water team, to support our novel and cutting edge projects. We provide environmental monitoring and assessment support to water companies, airports, developers and other commercial organisations, where high quality data capture and analysis is essential to assess and inform environmental assessments.
The successful candidate will form part of the team working across a variety of projects in our water, ecology and environmental impact assessment teams. There is also the opportunity to work with other parts of our business with the aim of helping to develop a portfolio of projects where our water related expertise can complement other environmental assessments.
Key accountabilities
- Fieldwork lead for water quality surveys in surface water and groundwater environments
- Data collection through site surveys and monitoring programmes.
- Data processing, analysis, interpretation and visualisation using Excel and GIS.
- Desk studies, literature reviews, option appraisals, impact assessment and reporting.
- Monitoring programme coordination, including laboratory suppliers and resource management.
- Project management.
Key competencies and experience
Essential
- Bachelors (2.1 or above) and ideally a post graduate degree in a relevant subject,
- Understanding of the UK water industry – at least 2 years
- Thorough experience of using Excel and GIS packages (such as ArcGIS and QGIS).
- Experience of reviewing and interpreting datasets, with excellent analytical skills.
- Effective report writing skills.
- Ability to fault find and problem solve in challenging environments.
- Effective time management skills.
- Willingness to learn from contributing to a broad range of fieldwork and office-based tasks.
- A full UK driver’s licence.
Advantageous
- Experience of leading survey teams in challenging river and estuarine environments
- Experience of airside working at UK airports
- Water safety training
- GIS skills
- Powerboat licence.
