An Independent Safety Assessment (ISA) is a service undertaken by a third party to confirm that a product, system or entire railway meets recognised industry, legal and regulatory standards that relate to safety.
Ricardo was the first organisation to be accredited to ISO/IEC 17020:2012 under Canada's new Independent Safety Assessor for Railway Systems Accreditation Program.

Riyadh Metro - Independent Safety Assessment
To provide confidence that Riyadh's six-line metro network would be built to the highest safety standards, Ricardo was appointed to bring experience of constructing systems in similar climates – e.g Dubai, Doha, Abu Dhabi - and ensure issues were resolved without disruption to the overall schedule.
As the Independent Safety Assessor, we performed audits of safety plans, processes and documents at every stage of the project's development, including design, manufacture, installation, testing and trial operations. Our regular assessments and final reports provided confidence to stakeholders that safety was of upmost importance throughout the project.
ChaRM by Ricardo
Whether driven by low emission zones, net zero targets, cost pressures or public expectations, making decisions about future bus fleet requirements presents a major challenge for fleet owners, service operators and transport planners alike.

Etihad Rail Safety Assessment
Ricardo was the appointed Independent Safety Assessor for the construction of the 1,200km passenger and freight network across the United Arab Emirates.
