Eglington Light Rail System
Challenge
Ricardo was appointed as the Independent Safety Assessor (ISA) for the Eglington Cross Town Light Rail Transit scheme in May 2022. The project provides an east-west light rail service across midtown Toronto, serving 25 stops along a 19km route.
Approach
Our teams are assessing the scheme’s application of processes for safety, security and quality, with a remit extending across planning, design, construction, testing and commissioning stages.
Among the tasks are assessments of key documents such as the System Safety Plan, Security Plan and Safety Cases. Separately, our experts will check that the process for hazard identification and risk management is sufficiently robust.
Results
The assessments will be undertaken in accordance with recognised standards such as the Canadian Method for Risk Evaluation and Assessment, and EN50126, the international standard for the specification and demonstration of Reliability, Availability, Maintainability and Safety (RAMS) for railway applications.
Our ISA role will be at 'system integration' level, demonstrating the scheme has been developed and implemented in a safe and secure manner, and compliant with industry practice for light rail transit.
